About the Role

The Torres Strait Island Regional Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Team Leader to lead the Creditors team and provide advice on creditor/accounts payable processes.

As a key member of the Council's finance team, you will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the creditors function, providing recommendations on efficiencies, procedures, and processing controls, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Creditors team and provide guidance on creditor/accounts payable processes
  • Manage the daily operations of the creditors function, including corporate purchasing cards and expense management
  • Develop and implement procedures to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Provide recommendations on processing controls and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Collaborate with other teams to ensure seamless operations and achieve Council goals
Requirements
  • Tertiary or diploma qualification in accounting, business, commerce, or a related field
  • Experience in all facets of Accounts Payable, including corporate purchasing cards and expense management
  • Proven experience in using complex ERP software, preferably Technology One
  • Demonstrated experience in managing a small team
  • Knowledge and understanding of GST and FBT
  • Demonstrated understanding of the issues impacting Torres Strait Islander people and ability to communicate sensitively and effectively
