About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Graduate Nuclear Analyst to join our team at the Science and Technology Facilities Council. As a Graduate Nuclear Analyst, you will play a key role in developing, testing, and improving radiation simulations of our facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work as part of the neutronics team to perform nuclear analysis calculations and benchmarking.
  • Develop and test tools and codes for nuclear analysis.
  • Collaborate with the accelerator and engineering teams on the ISIS-II project to support the shielding design.
  • Conduct supporting experiments and analyze data.
  • Produce written reports and presentations.
Requirements
  • Achieved, or be on course to achieve, a minimum 2:1 degree in a relevant field of study.
  • Have the right to live and work in the UK at time of starting employment.
  • Currently studying or recently completed a physics or a nuclear focused degree course.
  • Experience of computer programming such as Python, C, or Fortran.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
  • Competent and confident using mathematics to solve problems.
  • Knowledge of nuclear physics.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge/awareness of Monte Carlo Methods.
  • Knowledge/awareness of radiation and radiation safety.
  • Awareness of high-performance computing.
  • Research experience as part of a larger project.
