About Johnson Controls, a leading provider of innovative solutions in the field of engineering, we are seeking an exceptional individual to fill the role of Design Engineer.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for analyzing and improving current product designs, collaborating closely with internal design teams, production, customers, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration and timely release of new products.

This is a fantastic opportunity for individuals who possess strong technical skills, excellent attention to detail, and effective communication skills. The successful candidate will have experience in electrical switchboard design, preferably with compliance to Australian and International safety, environmental, and wiring standards.

Key responsibilities include:

• Analyzing current product designs and providing improvements in manufacturability, cost, safety, and functionality, in conjunction with customers and internal design teams.
• Liaising with customers to ensure requirements for new products are fulfilled and approval is received.
• Collaborating closely with electrical design teams, production, customers, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration and timely release of new products.
• Carrying out supportive tasks as allocated by the Product Development Manager, including maintaining the product database, managing Engineering Change/ Release Notes, and managing and reviewing design documentation for release to production.
• Ensuring that requested changes to existing products are adequately documented and implemented in accordance with company procedures.
• Writing specifications for components and recommending materials for purchasing.
• Preparing user documentation, including technical descriptions and drawings for manuals.
• Providing technical support for the maintenance of existing products and resolving factory production/ quality issues, including feedback to the various teams for lessons learned.
• Providing realistic estimates for tasks and ensuring tasks are completed as scheduled in the project plan.
• Fabricating/ assembling in-house test equipment and product prototypes and producing functional and environmental test reports.
• Ordering and tracking orders of mechanical components and other materials.
• Traveling to customer and supplier sites as required.

In order to succeed in this role, applicants should possess the following qualifications:

• A degree or diploma in mechanical engineering or mechatronic engineering (or similar) related discipline.
• Five years hands-on experience in design/ manufacturing of mechanical equipment, including experience with designs of electrical/ electronic products, with a track record of personally delivering successful solutions.
• A working knowledge of materials, finishing processes, and fabrication/ assembly processes.
• Experience with AutoCAD and Solidworks 3D design for metal fabrication is required. Wiring diagram and circuit diagram experience in AutoCAD/ Solidworks is preferred.
• Experience with design, assembly, and testing of prototypes.
• A working knowledge of ISO 9001 and AS3000 quality/ safety standards.
• Experience working in a Design for Manufacturing environment.
• Excellent attention to detail is a requirement, along with accuracy, and self-motivation to deliver work to the highest standards.
• Experience with Microsoft Office based products.
• Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
