Senior Acoustics Officer

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Acoustics Officer to join our Polar Technology section at the Australian Antarctic Division. As a key member of our team, you will provide specialized acoustic support across the Australian Antarctic Program, working closely with our Oceanographic Systems Manager and other senior team members.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical expertise in marine acoustic systems, including multibeam echo sounders and sounders for marine biology detection and classification.
- Support the activities of the general Antarctic Science program, including specialized acoustic systems and marine science equipment.
- Work on the RSV Nuyina, the AAD Icebreaker, and other Antarctic vessels, ensuring the safe and effective operation of acoustic equipment.
- Collaborate with our team to develop and implement innovative solutions for acoustic data collection and analysis.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures for acoustic equipment maintenance and operation.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences with a strong mathematics focus.
- Experience working in demanding multi-disciplinary environments, preferably in the Antarctic or sub-Antarctic regions.
- Excellent technical skills, with a strong understanding of acoustic principles and systems.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to work in challenging and remote environments.
