
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Engagement Specialist

The Access and Public Engagement Branch is the public face of National Archives, delivering reference, description and research services, examination of records for release in the open period, exhibition, education and public programs, publishing (including digital publishing), marketing, partnerships and events on site at national and state offices, and online.
All programs and activities support the key National Archives' role of providing an accessible, visible and interpreted national archival collection.
Key Responsibilities:- Cultivate and execute strategic plans to advance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement within the organization.
- Foster collaboration with stakeholders to deliver projects aligned with the National Archives' change agenda.
- Lead teams in developing and implementing policies that enhance Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander relationships.
- Develop culturally sensitive advice and manage complex or sensitive projects, issues and risks related to National Archives' engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, groups, and organizations.
- Negotiate Memoranda of Understanding with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organizations and coordinate advisory groups and engagement.
- Evaluate, monitor, manage and review engagement, reporting, policies and procedures consistent with the Archives Act 1983 .
This position leads and supervises staff responsible for developing and delivering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander related projects, policy and initiatives under the Strategy: Evolving National Archives framework.
Requirements:- A degree in a relevant field, experience in administration and management, archives or cultural heritage collection, or membership in professional associations.
- In lieu of formal qualifications, applied knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and history, as well as skills and equivalent experience relevant to the role.
- Candidates are required to understand issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and have effective culturally appropriate communication and engagement skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional certification in relevant fields.
- Mastery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander language and culture.
