Contemporary Design Assistant

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Assistant Designer to join our team. As an integral part of our design department, you will play a key role in the development and management of product collections.

The successful candidate will have a strong technical knowledge of womenswear construction and materials, with a keen eye for colour and print. They will also possess excellent communication skills, both verbally and written, with the ability to work effectively with external vendors and factories.

In addition to your technical skills, you will be able to demonstrate a high level of creativity, commercial awareness, and business acumen. You will be able to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines, and possess a strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Head of Design in developing and executing a strategic vision for product collections
  • Contribute to the management of design direction from conception to final styling, including fabric selection, trims, silhouettes, lab dips, colours, prints, and patterns
  • Assist with the whole range design, across all categories, womenswear in both woven and knitwear in line with the creative direction of Head of Design and the designer
  • Help with linesheet development and presentation materials for strategy reviews, including trend, colour, and fabric boards
  • Monitor and follow up sourcing and development of fabrics, embroidery, trims, and sample requests with external vendor/factories
  • Attend fit sessions from first fit to production samples, ensuring that product is technically executed to the highest standard and of commercial fit
  • International travel as required, either for visiting the factory or supporting the sales and Head of Design for overseas sourcing, development, and research trips
  • Strong communication skills with factories to achieve positive results in the development phase

Requirements:

  • 3+ years minimum womenswear industry experience
  • Knowledge on seasonal trends and market responses would be advantageous
  • Strong technical knowledge of Woven and knitwear construction and materials with strong colour and print sense
  • Willingness to travel internationally as required
  • On-site working arrangements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and range development experience
  • Strong proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to prioritize and manage workload with multiple deadlines
