Job Overview

The Starship Aerodynamics team predicts and analyzes the aerodynamic environments experienced by our vehicles during all phases of their missions, from subsonic to hypersonic speeds.

This is a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our spacecraft.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, mesh, run, and post-process CFD models
  • Review post-flight data and compare to pre-flight estimates
  • Interface with engineers to provide inputs and ensure a clear understanding of physical phenomena
  • Write code and scripts in various languages for automation

Key Responsibilities:

Our ideal candidate will have expertise in:

  • Aerodynamic and aerothermal analysis
  • CFD modeling and simulation
  • Programming skills in languages such as Java or Python
  • Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+

Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in aerodynamics and aerothermal analysis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in aerospace or mechanical engineering
  • Experimental testing experience
  • Data processing and analysis skills in MATLAB or Python
  • Strong background in external, compressible fluid dynamics
