Position Overview
The Principal Mechanical Engineer plays a pivotal role within our Engineering Services division. In this position, you will spearhead the design, execution, and maintenance of the University’s HVAC systems and specialized laboratory service infrastructure. This role requires collaboration with Facilities Management, Asset Management, and various project teams to ensure seamless operations across all University campuses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing design specifications, providing project advice, overseeing testing and inspections, managing contracts, and ensuring adherence to safety and design standards.
- Participating in strategic planning initiatives to align infrastructure with current and future educational and research needs.
- Leading the mechanical engineering and Building Management Systems (BMS) teams, serving as a subject matter expert and mentor.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A recognized degree in mechanical engineering within Australia, with the capability to design, review, and manage energy-efficient mechanical systems.
- RPEQ registration.
- Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering, particularly in chilled water systems, air conditioning, and laboratory systems, with a background in both design and client or contractor roles.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes of practice.
- A passion for enhancing the sustainability and energy efficiency of building services.
- Strong communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
