Job Description:

As a Flood Operations Specialist, you will play a vital role in our team's efforts to deliver high-quality flood forecasting and warning services. You will be responsible for monitoring rainfall and river height data, running hydrologic flood models, and preparing and issuing flood warning products.

Our team operates with a national capability, providing scalable and resilient services to the Australian community. We are committed to establishing a world-class centre of scientific expertise and practice.

The primary responsibility of this role is focused on year-round operational flood forecasting and warning as part of a planned National Water Operations Team (NWOT) roster. Outside of NWOT duties, this role will lead projects that drive continuous improvement of flood warning services, water forecasting or water data related services aligned with a key national capability area.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining an awareness of daily weather and flood risk across Australia
  • Monitoring rainfall and river height data, running hydrologic flood models, and preparing and issuing flood warning products
  • Supporting national flood operations, ensuring systems are operationally ready and resources are available

We are looking for individuals with a good understanding of operational flood forecasting and a solid hydrology or meteorology background. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and communication skills, combined with leadership, personal resilience, decisiveness, and astute problem-solving skills.
