Deckhand Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and hard-working Deckhand to join our team on a fishing vessel based in Port Lincoln, South Australia. As a Deckhand, you will play a key role in the day-to-day fishing operations, focusing on trap-based fishing.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in loading and unloading the boat with supplies (bait, ice, fuel).
  • Set and retrieve traps (20-30kg) on a daily basis using winches and cranes.
  • Prepare and cut bait, load traps, and handle the catch.
  • Help clean the deck and fish hold after each day's work.
  • Participate in unloading product and ensuring the boat is ready for the next trip.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the boat (both during and after the trip).
  • Assist in minor maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Be prepared to work and rest in rotating shifts, depending on trip length.
Requirements:
  • Prior fishing or deckhand experience is a bonus, but not required.
  • Basic knife skills are advantageous.
  • Good physical fitness and ability to handle heavy lifting.
  • Willingness to learn and take on a variety of tasks.
  • Ability to work as part of a small team in a high-pressure environment.
  • Any relevant certifications such as First Aid would be highly valued.
