Firearms Specialist Role

The Australian Federal Police is seeking a suitably qualified Firearms Specialist to join its team in Canberra.

As a Firearms Specialist, you will be responsible for providing support capabilities relating to firearms, accessories, ammunition, and conducted electrical weapons (Tasers) to the AFP and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work within a team of high-performing specialists to achieve operational requirements.
  • Servicing, altering, modifying, or repairing firearms in accordance with manufacturer recommendations and specifications or any other approved requirements.
  • Asset management and logistics to facilitate purchasing, receipt, recording, monitoring, storage, and distribution of goods and services.
  • Carry out destructions of obsolete firearms and other controlled items.
  • Provide technical advice, design, and fabrication of items as required.
  • Conduct research and development into new firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition.

You will work closely with your team to achieve outcomes in accordance with the regulatory framework, the AFP Code of Conduct, and the AFP Governance Instruments.

Requirements
  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Hold trade-qualified certifications.
  • Able to acquire relevant certification to repair and service operational platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • A Negative Vetting 1 (Secret) security clearance or the ability to obtain one.

This role attracts a composite allowance in recognition of expanded working hours and shift patterns.
