Regulatory Leader for Uniform Legal Services
About the Role:The Regulatory Leader is a statutory role under the Legal Profession Uniform Law, serving as both the Commissioner for Uniform Legal Services Regulation and CEO of the Legal Services Council. This position drives consistency in legal regulation across jurisdictions and supports expansion of the Uniform Law Framework to non-participating states and territories.
The Regulatory Leader leads strategic policy, regulatory integration, and operational excellence, supported by a small secretariat of legal policy and administrative staff. This is a full-time appointment for a 5-year term, with the possibility of reappointment.
Key Responsibilities:- Lead the Council's operations and committees in line with its strategic direction and timelines set by the Council and Standing Committee.
- Ensure the secretariat delivers timely, high-quality advice, particularly on the development and maintenance of Uniform Rules.
- Implement strategic planning, budgeting, governance, and accountability frameworks to support effective delivery of the Council's mandate.
- Proven expertise in legal policy, regulation, or professional standards.
- Deep understanding of best practice regulation principles, regulatory frameworks, and legal market dynamics.
- Respected leader with sound judgment, integrity, and professional ethics.
- Skilled in driving reform and harmonisation across complex regulatory environments.
- Strong organisational leadership, including staff, financial, and strategic management.
- Excellent communicator and negotiator, adept at building influential partnerships.
