Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Assistance Dog Trainer to join our expanding team. This is a permanent full-time role, where you will have the opportunity to make a positive impact every day.

  • Teaching dogs to obey commands and undertake specific tasks - verbal and nonverbal commands.
  • Assessing and training Dogs to reach full potential so they meet quality and production targets.
  • Analysing temperamental characteristics of dogs and external stock as required.
  • Selecting specific dog-training requirements according to identified needs of clients.
  • Analysing training and behavioural problems and resolving them.
  • Selecting appropriate training environments.
  • Supervising the selection of suitable dogs from puppy education programs to Guide & Assistance Dog programs.
  • Training and placing Facility dogs as required.
  • Participating in Animal Assisted Therapy programs as required.
  • Treating minor injuries and reporting serious conditions to Veterinarians.
  • Exercising, feeding, watering, and playing with dogs according to their individual needs.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing effective dog training programs that meet the needs of our clients.

  1. A relevant AQF certificate IV qualification or:
  2. A minimum of 3 years experience as a Dog Trainer.
  3. A current driver's licence.
  4. A current satisfactory DHS screening and National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain.
  5. The ability to plan and organise dog training programs.
  6. A sound knowledge of all aspects of dog training.
  7. Dog training theory - basic and advanced.
  8. Experience training a number and variety of dogs.
  9. Knowledge of dog psychology.
  10. Sound knowledge of State & Federal Dog law.
  11. The ability to display initiative and flexibility required in the planning, organising and implementation of the training program to accommodate the needs of the dog and training staff on an individual and group basis.
  12. The ability to problem solve.
  13. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  14. The ability to plan and organise workload and work activities.
