The role of a Youth Mentor plays a vital part in the Staying On Track program.

">Job Description

The Youth Mentor position is a pivotal role that works collaboratively with Youth Justice to develop, deliver and support departmental service provision by delivering practical, cultural, social support and mentoring components of a young person's Service Response Plan (SRP).

The Youth Mentor builds consistent, positive relationships with young people before and after release, using a trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and youth-led approach. They provide practical and emotional support, coordinate service responses, strengthen cultural and community connections, and assist young people to achieve their goals set out in their SRP.

  1. To engage and build relationships with young people exiting youth detention
  2. To work with young people to identify their individual needs and develop strategies to address them
  3. To maintain accurate records of progress and outcomes for each young person
