Urban Planning Career Development Opportunity

Launch a rewarding career in urban planning with our Trainee Town Planner program. This two-year fixed-term position offers hands-on experience and structured training in statutory planning, development systems, and customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice on planning and development through Council's Duty Planner and pre-lodgement services
  • Assist with assessing development proposals and related applications to ensure legislative requirements are met
  • Support customers via counter, phone, and email interactions to deliver exceptional service
  • Prepare reports, memorandums, and correspondence on development matters to facilitate decision-making
  • Conduct site inspections and coordinate feedback from internal and external stakeholders to ensure project success
  • Meet Council deadlines and statutory timeframes to maintain productivity and efficiency
Requirements:
  • Enrolment in a tertiary course leading to a qualification in town planning or a related discipline is essential
  • A strong interest in development assessment and statutory planning is required
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for success in this role
  • A basic understanding of relevant planning legislation and regulations is expected
  • Commitment to continuous learning and a proactive work ethic are highly valued
