About the Role

The Homeless Practitioner is a critical position that provides support to clients entering or seeking homeless services. This role contributes to embedding an innovative Aboriginal designed service model, working with multi-disciplinary teams across the Toward Home Alliance. As a committed Homeless Practitioner, you will work within a restorative practice framework and ensure cultural accountability.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Build safe, trusting, and consistent relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and their community members.
  2. Grow clients' support systems and ensure they are referred to and can access any necessary supports.
  3. Timely record keeping of client information as per data collection methodology in program operational manual.
  4. Recognize and assess risk, and escalate where required.
About You

In this role, you will thrive with a collaborative, open-minded, and people-centred approach. You will understand and advocate for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples, ensuring they have a voice to contribute to change. You will work within a supportive team who share knowledge, feedback, and celebrate small wins.

Requirements
  1. Cert IV in Community Services or related field, or relevant experience in lieu of.
  2. Previous experience in working with vulnerable and at-risk people, particularly Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples and communities.
  3. Track record of successfully engaging with clients and building relationships.
  4. Organised, strong time management, and administration skills.
  5. Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to persuasively apply them in a complex working environment.
Specific Requirements

You will be required to have, or be willing to obtain:

  1. Full unrestricted South Australia Driver's License.
  2. DHS Child-Related Employment Screening or Working With Children check.
  3. National Police Clearance.
  4. A current Provide First Aid Certificate.
  5. Travel within South Australia.
  6. A Safe Environments for Children and Young People Certificate (or willingness to obtain).
  7. Evidence of current COVID 19 vaccinations including any booster requirements.
