About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Project Engineer to join our team at the Northern Territory Government. As a key member of our infrastructure development team, you will play a critical role in driving the engineering design process for major projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Expert Technical Advice: Offer expert-level professional written and verbal advice to stakeholders, senior management, and project managers on the end-to-end delivery of infrastructure projects.
  • Lead and Manage Teams: Lead, manage, and advise a diverse group of multi-disciplined resource teams on technical and legislation/compliance matters and standards.
  • Monitor Performance: Responsible for monitoring the performance of engineering consultants to achieve on-time and on-budget completion and quality of deliverables.
  • Develop Collaborative Partnerships: Develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with project team members, key internal and external stakeholders, including an interagency Technical Working Group.
  • Provide Critical Analysis: Provide critical analysis and advice to senior management on the integration of engineering activities into other work streams.
  • Prepare Work Scopes and Briefs: Prepare work scopes and briefs for studies and investigations, including geotechnical, to enable tendering of project packages to consultants.
  • Manage Consultant Performance: Manage and monitor the performance of consultants to achieve timely completion and quality of deliverables.
  • Manage Project Cost Estimates and Schedule: Manage and update project cost estimates and schedule to inform the ongoing assessment and risk management for project delivery.
Selection Criteria
  1. Tertiary Qualification and Registration: A tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or similar related field and registration, or eligibility for registration with Engineers Australia and demonstrated high-level experience in the field of civil engineering.
  2. Leadership and Delivery: Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver a complex work program in collaboration with stakeholders, including the effective management of contractors to deliver on time and within budget.
  3. Communication and Problem-Solving: Proven ability to work effectively and efficiently under minimal supervision, ability to meet deadlines, effectively prioritize workload, and find solutions to complex problems.
  4. Communication and Negotiation: Demonstrated high-level written and oral communication skills with the ability to consult, negotiate, and liaise with a diverse group of stakeholders and provide concise and accurate reports, briefings, and executive submissions.
  5. Contract and Stakeholder Negotiations: Demonstrated experience in contract and stakeholder negotiations, influencing, and dispute resolution and relationship management.
  6. Leadership and Supervision: Demonstrated ability in providing leadership and supervision to a multi-disciplined team.
Desirable Qualifications

Postgraduate qualification in Project Management or similar.
