Job Overview

The Postgraduate Senior Nursing Manager role is a senior position responsible for the overall management of patient access and care coordination outside of business hours. This includes operational management, monitoring KPI targets, and managing significant events in consultation with on-call Executives.

This leadership role works closely with the Patient Flow Co-Coordinator to progress nurse-led strategy and practice improvement through a practice development approach.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide overall management of patient access and care coordination outside business hours.
  • Monitor and report on KPI targets such as Emergency Treatment Performance (ETP) and Transfer of Care (TOC).
  • Manage after-hours events in consultation with on-call Executives; oversee skill mix and staffing for after-hours coverage; monitor Health Work & Safety responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Patient Flow Co-Coordinator to contribute to nurse-led strategy and practice improvement.
Requirements
  • Current unrestricted registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Recognised tertiary management qualifications or actively pursuing them, with evidence of recent professional development to enhance leadership and management competencies.
  • Experience applying change management principles with measurable outcomes; demonstrated leadership in a complex healthcare environment.
  • Recent broad clinical, operational and strategic experience at a senior level within a complex healthcare environment.
  • Strong verbal, written, and negotiation skills; ability to use information technology platforms and provide clear plans and reports.
  • Understanding of Ministry of Health strategic directions, quality and safety framework, and the Nursing & Midwifery agenda.
  • Sound knowledge of current clinical practice, models of care, and ability to motivate and lead staff to achieve service and professional goals.
