About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Student Counsellor to join our team at Chisholm Institute of TAFE. As a key member of our Student Support and Engagement department, you will be responsible for providing support services to members of our community, specializing in the counselling of young people.

The successful candidate will deliver counselling and wellbeing services to our students, aiming to improve student outcomes through early identification, intervention, support, referral, and first response to students in crisis. This role requires the astute handling of sensitive, complex, and demanding scenarios involving multiple stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct support to students through individual support across various channels, including face-to-face, phone, web chat, and video conferencing.
  • Deliver broad support through class talks, workshops, resource creation, and support to educators to service the needs of the student body from both proactive and reactive approaches.
  • Provide collegiate support through the identification and follow-up of students at-risk (both academically and wellbeing).
  • Work with key internal and external stakeholders to provide support and/or guidance as an initial response to a student in crisis and complete post-crisis activities in line with our crisis presentation process.
About You

You are a highly motivated individual with well-developed communication and interpersonal skills. We require a minimum of 3 years' experience as a psychologist/counsellor/welfare provider to high-risk clients requiring case management, referral, crisis, and reactive support services.

Qualifications required for the role include:

  • A tertiary qualification relevant to youth, social work, counselling, or community services.
  • Registration or membership with PACFA, ACA, or AASW.

We estimate the salary for this position to be around $85,000-$92,000 per annum, plus superannuation, based on the location and industry standards.
