Job Title: Animal Technician

About the Role

The Australian BioResources facility specialises in breeding and genetically modifying mouse lines for medical research.

As an Animal Technician, you will provide support for the care and maintenance of animals used in medical research. Your role will be vital in supporting researchers involved in animal studies.

By providing high-quality animal care, you will contribute to effective scientific outcomes, leading to further funding success and helping towards major disease prevention, treatment or cure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Follow strict monitoring, welfare, and husbandry procedures for breeding colonies.
  • Perform animal husbandry duties such as changing cages and routine cleaning.
  • Monitor and replace water and feed.
  • Monitor animals and report health or behavioural abnormalities.
  • Carry out basic manipulation techniques under supervision.
  • Routine use and maintenance of equipment.
  • Accurate record keeping and administrative responsibilities.
Requirements
  • Desired experience includes general experience in handling rodents and basic knowledge of husbandry requirements.
  • Basic manipulation skills are desirable.
  • Relevant TAFE qualifications preferred but not required.
