Senior Irrigation Consultant

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Irrigation Consultant to lead our irrigation team in the assessment, analysis, design, and implementation of precise irrigation and fertigation systems for our strawberry farm in Tasmania.

This is a unique opportunity to work on a large-scale expansion project that will enable us to install a state-of-the-art irrigation system.

The successful applicant will have:

  • A proven track record in designing and implementing large-scale irrigation systems for agriculture.
  • Detailed knowledge of soft fruit crops and their water and nutritional requirements.
  • Experience with substrate (coir) and soil irrigation, including Priva systems.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities in challenging field conditions.
  • Ability to undertake topographical analysis of the soil profile and assess erosion and infiltration risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement efficient monitoring systems for irrigation timetables across the new site.
  • Implement new irrigation zones and modifications to Freelands, allowing for the 7ha expansion.
  • Supervise irrigation system installations, ensuring they meet company sustainability goals and environmental standards.
  • Participate in technical meetings and senior-level discussions updating on progress and deliverable outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in health and nutritional assessments of water sources, crop requirements, and fertigation mechanisms.
  • Ability to carry out an independent assessment of the viability of a renewable energy source for pump and fertigation systems.
  • Familiarity with the Horticultural Award MA000028 and the National Employment Standard (NES).
