Job Overview

The role of Information Communication Technology Engineer plays a key part in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia's future.

Downer Professional Services is a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security. We have two business units: Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer.

Main Responsibilities:
  1. Lead technical assurance and certification for narrowband SATCOM systems in the Land Domain. Ensure systems are safe, compliant, and fit for service throughout their lifecycle.
  2. Align engineering activities with project requirements and standards.
  3. Manage Technical Authority assignments and ensure SQEP coverage across functions. Conduct design reviews, risk assessments, and technical approvals.
  4. Maintain engineering governance, standards, and compliance with Defence frameworks.
  5. Provide expert advice to stakeholders and represent SATCOM SPO in technical forums. Drive innovation and continuous improvement in narrowband SATCOM capabilities.
Requirements:
  1. Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Communications, Systems, or related); CPEng or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  2. Experience in Defence engineering, ideally in SATCOM or communications systems.
  3. Proven technical authority and assurance experience in complex environments.
  4. Strong understanding of Land Domain integration and engineering governance.
  5. Postgraduate qualifications in Systems Engineering or related field. Experience in acquisition or sustainment projects.
  6. Familiarity with joint/coalition SATCOM interoperability standards. Knowledge of relevant Defence instructions.
  7. Demonstrated leadership in innovation and mentoring engineering teams.
