Lead Data Engineering Professional

Melbourne (Hybrid) | Contract

This position presents a unique opportunity to shape the data engineering capability within a leading Australian investment organisation. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in driving the automation, centralisation, and distribution of investment data across the business.

The Role

As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll provide technical leadership in building and maintaining enterprise-grade data pipelines, integrations, and investment reporting solutions. Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design, build, and optimisation of data ingestion, transformation, and reporting pipelines.
  • Deploying and supporting solutions in AWS cloud, using tools such as Lambda, Glue, Athena, Redshift, DynamoDB, and API Gateway.
  • Collaborating with architects and stakeholders to translate investment data requirements into fit-for-purpose solutions.
  • Providing technical oversight, code reviews, and mentorship to other developers.
  • Championing automation, test-driven development, and DevSecOps practices in data engineering.
  • Supporting the delivery of enterprise-wide data initiatives and investment reporting projects.
  • Building strong relationships with business teams to ensure data solutions align with strategic needs.
About You

We're seeking a technically strong and business-savvy data engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment and has the ability to influence, mentor, and lead. Essential skills and experience include:

  • Advanced experience with SQL as well as proficiency in programming languages (preferably Python and R).
  • Strong background in data engineering, including ETL, warehouse solutions, and complex data modelling.
  • Experience in AWS cloud environments and building REST API integrations.
  • Proven ability to analyse complex data sets, identify anomalies, and deliver high-quality reporting and insights.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage stakeholders and present technical solutions clearly.

Desirable skills include exposure to investment data platforms, knowledge of financial instruments, and familiarity with data governance frameworks and emerging data technologies.
