Job Description:

The role of the Safety Manager - Health and Environmental Risk Specialist involves identifying and managing health and environmental risks across various operations and project sites. Ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies through regular inspections, audits, and safety training is a key responsibility.

This position works closely with site teams and contractors to foster a strong safety culture, support emergency preparedness, and contribute to continuous improvement in safety performance. Limited support is also provided in environmental and quality assurance matters, requiring regular travel to project sites.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Identify, assess, and resolve workplace and project site health and environmental risks, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and company policies.
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation solutions to improve overall safety and environmental performance.
  • Conduct regular project site and workplace inspections, audits, and risk assessments to ensure alignment with safety standards.
  • Lead incident investigations, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Provide expert advice and coaching to employees, contractors, and management on safety best practices.
  • Deliver safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks to enhance awareness and understanding among all levels of the business.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with company health and safety standards, addressing any deficiencies.
  • Ensure the WHS system is maintained and improved, integrating safety processes into daily business operations.
  • Support emergency response planning and crisis management, ensuring all sites are well-prepared.
  • Collaborate with project managers and construction teams to proactively address safety concerns and improve worksite conditions.
  • Provide limited support in environmental and quality assurance matters as required.
  • Travel regularly to project sites to provide on-the-ground safety support and problem-solving.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Strong teamwork skills and ability to motivate and maintain team focus.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in health and safety advisory roles, preferably in construction or renewable energy.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and resolve health and safety risks, implementing practical solutions.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legislation, codes of practice, and industry best practices.
  • Experience conducting project site and workplace safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments.
  • Skilled in incident investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
  • Ability to monitor and enforce contractor safety compliance, ensuring high standards.
  • High-level problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in safety documentation, reporting, and record-keeping systems.
  • Valid white card.
  • Willingness to travel to site as needed.
