**Job Summary**
We are seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Support Specialist to join our team at the School of Chemistry. The successful candidate will provide high-quality technical support in our teaching laboratories, ensuring a smooth and efficient running of our operations.
**Key Responsibilities**
• Provide technical assistance to staff and students, including demonstration of common techniques and operation of equipment
• Source and maintain equipment, instruments, or chemicals and consumables required for laboratory teaching classes
• Prepare and maintain laboratory documentation, including safety records and instrument/equipment/plant records
• Manage laboratory inventories and ensure safe storage and labeling of equipment/chemicals
• Identify and address laboratory infrastructure problems and escalate as necessary
• Schedule usage of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
• Act as the appointed first aid officer and undertake relevant training
• Implement and enforce university policy and procedures to ensure safety compliance
**Requirements**
To be successful in this role, you will have:
• A relevant qualification or equivalent level of knowledge gained through education, training, or experience
• Extensive understanding of chemistry and/or experience working in a chemistry teaching laboratory
• Strong organisational skills and ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines
• Demonstrated initiative and self-motivation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Experience using IT-based laboratory management systems and Microsoft Office Suite
• Effective record-keeping skills and attention to detail
• Proven experience working independently and as part of a high-performing team
• Current first aid certificate or willingness to obtain
• Understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives, and values
**Benefits**
We offer a competitive salary package, with a base salary range of $85,000 - $96,000 per annum, plus 17% superannuation and annual leave loading.
This is a fixed-term position for 12 months, working full-time (35 hours per week). The role reports to the Laboratory Manager – Teaching and has no direct reports.
