Job Opportunity

Southern Gulf NRM is seeking an Environment Project Officer to contribute to sustainable Natural Resource Management (NRM) in North West Queensland.

The Southern Gulf region covers 215,000 square kilometres and comprises multiple catchments and islands.

This role will develop and implement programs to support natural resource management outcomes based on the strategic framework of the Southern Gulf NRM Plan.

We are looking for a skilled professional with expertise in environment and heritage outcomes, implementation of property plans, land condition monitoring, education and awareness, adult learning and on-ground works projects.

About the Position

This role involves managing natural resource management projects including aspects such as budget management, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting.

You will be responsible for implementing projects by building partnerships with pastoral industry, local governments, community groups, government agencies, project investors, and Traditional Owners.

Funding opportunities will be identified and applications developed to support natural resource management in the region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage projects from planning to completion.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with various stakeholders.
  • Identify and apply for funding opportunities.
  • Maintain professional knowledge of policy and land management practices.
  • Contribute to the success of our team through positive contributions to the management and administration of the organisation.
Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Agricultural or Environmental Science or related disciplines.
  • Demonstrated scientific/technical knowledge of concepts, principles, and procedures relevant to natural resource management.
  • Experience in industry extension principles and practices, successfully engaging with and providing capacity building activities for the agricultural and land management sectors.
  • High organisational skills to coordinate multiple projects and time management to meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills to communicate complex concepts to a wide range of audiences.

Additional Requirements

This position requires the ability to work unsupervised when needed. It also requires a sound general knowledge of natural resource management principles and specific professional competencies relevant to the Southern Gulf region.

Travel throughout the region will be required, including significant distances on unsealed roads in remote areas. Experience in four-wheel drive operation would be advantageous.
