Job Description

As a highly skilled and motivated healthcare professional, you have the opportunity to take on a leadership role in our surgical ward as a Nurse Unit Manager. About The Role:

The Nurse Unit Manager plays a vital leadership and support role within the surgical ward.

Working collaboratively with the team, the Nurse Unit Manager helps to ensure safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Leadership & Coordination: Support the team in managing day-to-day operations of the ward. Act as a clinical resource and point of escalation during shifts.
  • Direct Patient Care: Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to patients in the surgical ward. Support staff with clinical interventions, care planning, and complex decision-making.
  • Staff Support & Teamwork: Assist in staff supervision, task delegation, and team coordination during shifts. Support graduate nurses, students, and less experienced staff through informal mentoring and role modelling.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Liaise with medical, allied health, and support services to ensure coordinated patient care. Promote clear and respectful communication within the team.

Governance & Compliance: Maintain accurate and timely documentation in line with legal, professional, and hospital requirements. Contribute to incident reporting, quality improvement, and safety initiatives.

About You:

  • Current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse.
  • Minimum 5 years of acute clinical experience, preferably in acute or surgical nursing.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and provide leadership in clinical settings.
  • Strong problem-solving, clinical decision-making, and prioritisation skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster effective teamwork.
