The role of Senior Data Scientist at Auto & General is to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) for insurance product development, pricing, and underwriting. You will support the development and deployment of AI solutions and contribute to a data-driven culture that enhances customer experiences within the Product division.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of state-of-the-art AI solutions used for product development, underwriting, and pricing.
  • Contribute to the complete lifecycle of AI solution development, from ideation to full-scale implementation.
  • Collect, organise, analyse, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Monitor and assess the performance of deployed solutions to ensure accuracy, fairness, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to scope and deliver initiatives that drive business outcomes.
  • Build and maintain systems for deploying models and AI-based solutions on platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear and concise documentation and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Maintain high coding standards, collaborating with other scientists and engineers to produce robust and reproducible code.
  • Stay at the forefront of the field by adopting emerging technologies and best practices that improve operational efficiency and scalability.
  • Provide technical mentorship and continually improve our data-driven culture.

About You

  • PhD or Masters degree in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science, Computer Science, etc.).
  • 7+ years of experience implementing AI and machine learning techniques in a professional environment.
  • Strong statistical modelling experience with demonstrated ability to apply advanced mathematical techniques to solve real-world problems.
  • Expert proficiency with data manipulation and analysis using SQL, shell scripting, and Unix/Linux command-line tools.
  • Expert proficiency in general-purpose programming like Python, or similar, with extensive experience in relevant AI frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn).
  • Experience with deploying web applications and AI models to cloud platforms, preferably Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Familiarity with web application frameworks (Streamlit, Flask, Django), RESTful APIs (FastAPI, Flask), and JavaScript frameworks (React, Vue.js, Angular).
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and the ability to creatively prioritise, stage, and sequence solutions from proof-of-concept to full-scale implementation.
  • Communication skills to effectively explain technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences and to create high-quality documentation.
