Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in Drug & Alcohol is a crucial member of IHMS' Drug and Alcohol team. The primary responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and continuous enhancement of triage and treatment planning for patients involved in the opioid substitution treatment program (OSTP)
  • Acting as a clinical resource and advanced support for local issues related to drug and alcohol
  • Facilitating collaboration with local and external stakeholders to ensure seamless care
  • Conducting specialist assessments and managing withdrawal symptoms, pharmacotherapies, intoxication, and overdose situations
  • Assisting local and centralized leadership teams to ensure effective operation of drug and alcohol services

Qualifications

  • Current AHPRA Registration as a Div. 1 Registered Nurse
  • A minimum of 3 years of recent clinical experience with individuals facing drug and alcohol use disorders in a relevant setting, including experience in opioid substitution treatment
  • Advanced clinical assessment capabilities and management of substance-related issues
  • Strong understanding of harm minimization principles
  • Current BLS or First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
