Job Title

We are seeking an experienced legal professional to join our team on a 12-month, fixed-term contract for a parental leave cover. The role can be based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth or Adelaide with a hybrid working arrangement.

The successful candidate will assist our Senior Legal Counsel with the provision of corporate, commercial and financial services legal advice and governance advice to all of our businesses. This will involve understanding our legal and regulatory obligations and various industry issues insofar as they impact us and/or our members and policyholders.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Reviewing marketing materials to ensure legal compliance;
  • Providing corporate legal, commercial and governance advice to all of our businesses;
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts;
  • Providing insurance product advice and documentation;
  • Interpreting statutes and providing advice on legislative reform impacting our business;
  • Supporting litigation in a corporate context;
  • Providing legal advice on complaints and potential disputes, including at AFCA;
  • Delivering staff legal training;
  • Supporting senior lawyers, the General Counsel & Office of the CEO.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications (LLB or equivalent);
  • A current NSW (or other Australian State) Legal Practitioner Practising Certificate – mandatory;
  • Minimum 3 years' post-qualification experience in a mid or top-tier firm;
  • Private practice experience in providing commercial legal advice;
  • Previous experience working in an insurance and/or Australian financial services environment (beneficial);
  • A pragmatic and commercial focus (including understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market);
  • Highly developed stakeholder and people management skills;
  • High level of written and spoken language skills;
  • Understanding of the commercial environment of the general insurance market.
