Position Overview
The Principal Mechanical Engineer plays a vital role within our Engineering Services division. Collaborating with a skilled multi-disciplinary team, you will oversee the design, execution, and maintenance of the University’s HVAC systems and specialized laboratory services. This position involves working closely with Facilities Management, Asset Management, and various project teams to ensure the effective delivery of maintenance and projects across all University sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing design briefs, providing project advice, conducting testing, managing inspections, overseeing contracts, and ensuring adherence to safety and design standards.
- Contributing to the strategic development of the University’s infrastructure to align with current and future research and educational needs.
- Leading the mechanical engineering and Building Management Systems (BMS) teams, serving as a subject matter expert and mentoring junior engineers.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A recognized degree in mechanical engineering within Australia, with the capability to deliver energy-efficient and cost-effective mechanical systems based on a total cost of ownership perspective.
- RPEQ registration.
- Significant experience in mechanical building services engineering, particularly in chilled water systems, air conditioning with humidity control, and laboratory systems, with experience on both client and contractor sides.
- Knowledge of relevant standards and codes of practice.
- A passion for enhancing the energy efficiency and sustainability of building services.
- Excellent communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
