As a Diesel Fitter, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and efficiency of our operations.

Job Description

The Diesel Fitter is responsible for carrying out repairs, maintenance, and installations to the Port's equipment and services. This includes:

  • Maintaining and operating the Port's wharves, floating, static, heavy, and light plant and equipment, boat ramps, boat moorings, and navigational leads.
  • Ensuring the prompt repair of breakdowns to miscellaneous plant as it arises.
  • Servicing and maintaining the Ports Pilot vessel fleet, Survey vessel, and the Ports maintenance vessels.
  • Operating engineering machinery.
  • Providing and maintaining records of time and materials utilised, preparing materials lists, completing and returning inspection check sheets, complying with maintenance and service schedules, and reporting schedule deficiencies.
  • Directing the work of employees allocated by relevant Supervisor and/or Leading Hand.
  • Actively providing positive input and solving day-to-day job problems, establishing and improving work methods in the course of maintenance and repair work.
  • Ensuring compliance of the Port's use of Safe Operating Procedures (SOPs) with all tasks and assisting with Job Safety Environmental Analysis (JSEA's) when required.
  • Performing periodic inspections and testing of emergency equipment, including oil pollution equipment, fixed and mobile plant, to ensure equipment is fully functional.
  • Liaising with commercial outlets for work-related products.
  • Participating in port emergency responses and associated training as directed to assist with successful restoration of the Port back to an operating capacity in the event of an emergency.
  • Carrying out structural/mechanical repairs, maintenance, and installation/commissioning to Port plant, equipment, and services.
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Strong mechanical skills and knowledge of diesel engines.
  • Experience in equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
