Telecommunications Specialist – Network Optimization
Job DescriptionThe role of Telecommunications Specialist – Network Optimization is a challenging and rewarding position for a skilled professional to deploy, commission and optimize next-gen telecommunications systems in rugged, remote mining environments.
This includes integrating private LTE networks, high-capacity microwave backhaul and advanced Cisco and Nokia IP / MPLS solutions to deliver real-time connectivity for Tier 1 miners and energy providers.
Key Responsibilities:- Network Deployment: Deploy and commission private LTE, microwave, and IP / MPLS hardware in open-pit and underground mining sites.
- Solution Design: Design integrated solutions for autonomous haulage, SCADA, IoT sensor networks and more.
- Troubleshooting and Support: Provide on-site network optimization, troubleshooting and technical support.
- Testing and Analysis: Conduct FAT and FIT testing in simulated mining conditions with clients and analyze RF coverage, microwave links, and IP / MPLS performance metrics.
- Network Optimization: Optimize network performance using tools like TEMS, Nemo, Cisco DNA Centre and Nokia NSP.
- Security Implementation: Implement security best practices for LTE, microwave and Cisco / Nokia networks.
- System Integration: Integrate telecommunications networks with SCADA systems using Modbus, DNP3 and IEC 61850.
The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of IP protocols (OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, MPLS) and familiarity with environmental challenges unique to mining sites. Proficiency in RF drive testing and optimization tools and understanding of SCADA, IoT, and industrial automation systems are also essential.
The successful candidate will have deep expertise in private LTE, microwave and IP / MPLS (Cisco and Nokia) and experience with Cisco IOS XE / XR and Nokia SR OS (preferred).
