Electrical Commissioning Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Commissioning Specialist to lead and oversee the planning, coordination, execution, and documentation of testing and commissioning activities for electrical and control systems on a major rail/metro infrastructure project.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all commissioning activities are conducted in accordance with WHS legislation, rail safety standards, and environmental requirements. They will also be responsible for verifying that systems meet Transport for NSW (TfNSW), Sydney Metro, and Australian Standards compliance before handover.

This role involves developing, reviewing, and managing commissioning plans, schedules, and procedures for electrical and control systems. The candidate will also coordinate commissioning interfaces between electrical, signalling, communications, mechanical, and civil disciplines.

The Electrical Commissioning Specialist will work closely with the design, construction, and operations teams to ensure that commissioning requirements are incorporated early. They will also interface with OEMs, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure timely completion of commissioning tasks.

The role requires strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under tight deadlines. The successful candidate must have excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team leadership skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8-10 years' experience in testing and commissioning of electrical and control systems in rail, metro, or heavy infrastructure projects.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage power systems, SCADA, PLCs, and integrated control systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Australian rail safety standards, TfNSW technical specifications, and AS/NZS standards.
