About the Role

Mater Private Hospital Townsville has an opportunity for an experienced Recovery Nurse to join the Perioperative team. The successful applicant will secure a 12-month fixed-term contract covering maternity leave. We have two positions vacant across Recovery Stage 1 & Recovery Stage 2.

Our Perioperative Services Department

Our Perioperative Services department at Mater Private Hospital Townsville (MPHT) provides surgical services across 16 theatres and caters for adults and paediatrics with a variety of surgical specialties. MPHT boasts brand-new state-of-the-art theatre facilities, a catheterization laboratory, and separate onsite day surgery facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be a role-model in all aspects of leadership and promote a positive team culture within the unit.
  • Leadership and coordination of the Day Surgery unit.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times.
  • Provision and coordination of care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
  • Monitoring outcomes and initiating/advocating changes to processes and practices.
  • Participating in the review, development, and implementation of relevant policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Participates and promotes clinical meetings in a multidisciplinary setting.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

  • Relevant qualifications and registration with AHPRA.
  • A minimum of 3-4 years' recent experience as a Stage 1 or Stage 2 Recovery Nurse.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualifications will be highly regarded, although not essential.
  • Knowledge and experience in theatres, anaesthetics, and/or recovery.
  • Prior comparable experience in a leadership/supervisory role in a healthcare environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong knowledge of continuous improvement processes, coupled with the proven ability to initiate, coordinate, and evaluate quality improvement measures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of Workplace Health and Safety, Infection Control, and Clinical Risk policies.
