Job Title: Specialist Mental Health Expert

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team. As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality specialist care to older adults who require inpatient treatment.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Complete comprehensive assessments and develop tailored treatment plans for patients admitted to our inpatient ward.
  • Manage patients who have been detained under the Mental Health Act, ensuring that all relevant documentation is completed accurately and on time.
  • Lead the multidisciplinary team at the inpatient ward, fostering positive working relationships and high morale among staff members.
  • Provide clear communication and documentation regarding assessment outcomes and management plans.
  • Take an active part in the clinical work of the team and lead roles in service development.

Requirements:

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.
  • Inclusion on or eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council within six months of completion of higher professional training or equivalent in Old Age Psychiatry.
  • Section 12 (2) Approval and Approved Clinician Status or demonstrated ability to gain approval.
  • A valid UK driving licence and willingness to use personal vehicle for work-related travel or provide evidence of alternative arrangements.
  • MbChB, MBBS or equivalent qualification, Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent, and three years' higher professional training in Old Age Psychiatry.

Clinical Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent clinical knowledge and skills using a bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical expertise.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty.
  • Makes informed decisions based on evidence and experience, including contributions from other professionals.
  • Able to meet duties under the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
  • Previous experience in similar roles at a relevant level.
