Health Safety Lead Role

This key position plays a pivotal role in shaping health, safety, and environmental outcomes within high-risk Defence environments.

  • A technically skilled Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) professional is required to drive HSE excellence across operations.

In this capacity, you will work closely with Program Managers supporting ADF Ground Support Equipment and Counter-CBRNE contracts. You will develop and implement tailored HSE protocols that align with Defence and Commonwealth standards.

  • You will advise on HSE considerations throughout the asset lifecycle – from capability planning and procurement to sustainment – integrating safety and environmental controls into every phase.
  • Expertise in risk assessments, incident investigations, and audit activities will be crucial in domains where precision and resilience are critical.
  • Mentoring operational teams, leading toolbox talks, and partnering with stakeholders to embed a proactive, learning-focused safety culture will be essential responsibilities.

To succeed, you must bring:

  • Australian Citizenship and a valid Defence security clearance.
  • AQF Level 4 Qualification or Equivalent in Occupational Health, Safety, and Environmental Risk Management or a transferable engineering-related qualification.
  • Previous experience in a similar HSE role, preferably within Defence or other high-risk industries.
  • Strong understanding of relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis and incident investigation methodologies.
  • Competence in using HSEQ management systems, including accurate data entry and event management.
