Urban Planning Consultant Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and experienced urban planning consultant to join our team. As an urban planning consultant, you will contribute to the delivery of high-impact land use planning and policy projects for public sector clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the preparation of statutory land use planning projects, including development applications, land use studies, compliance assessments, highest and best use analysis, due diligence, precinct plans, and supporting technical inputs.
  • Provide high-quality planning analysis and advice informed by current government policies, regional and local priorities, and stakeholder needs.
  • Collaborate with internal and external multidisciplinary teams, including specialists in the fields of economics, urban design, transport, infrastructure advisory, community planning, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Prepare and review reports, presentations, and public-facing documents that communicate complex planning concepts clearly and persuasively.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to a high standard of quality.

Requirements:

  • Holds tertiary qualifications in Urban and Regional Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Ideal minimum 1-2 years' experience within an urban planning firm-based environment.
  • Sound knowledge of statutory planning, and related legislation, ideally gained in a consultancy or local/State government environment.
  • Proficient appreciation and understanding of statutory policies, processes, and influences.
  • Proficient appreciation and understanding of impacts and issues affecting land use and development.
