Job Opportunity: Governance and Risk Professional

Our ideal candidate will be a seasoned governance professional with a track record of successfully leading risk functions in a regional council environment.

The successful applicant will have the skills to effectively engage with councillors, staff, and community stakeholders while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead governance and risk frameworks, including Enterprise Risk Management, Business Continuity, and Disaster Recovery Plans.
  • Manage and chair the Audit, Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC) ensuring high standards of governance and compliance.
  • Oversee statutory compliance, corporate registers, and integrated planning/reporting obligations.
  • Manage the Council's insurance portfolio and high-level claims.
  • Act as Public Officer and manage Freedom of Information (GIPA) and Privacy matters.

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience in leading governance and risk functions in a local government or similar environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with councillors, staff, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide high-quality governance advice to the Executive, Managers, and Councillors.
  • Experience in mentoring staff to develop a strong, values-based team culture.
