Job Description:

As a Financial Counsellor, you will work closely with clients to understand their financial situations and provide personalized support through financial counselling, case work, advocacy, and referrals. You will also contribute to the development of our organization's services and capability work, while aligning with our broader objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality financial counselling services to clients with diverse and complex needs.
  • Apply trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and empowerment-based approaches to support clients in achieving their financial goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to contribute to strategic and operational outcomes for Client Services.
  • Advocate and negotiate on behalf of clients with financial institutions and service providers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and financial counselling practices.
  • Build and maintain strong networks with external agencies and within the financial counselling sector.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with organizational standards, reporting requirements, and professional registration.
  • Represent the service in professional forums and working groups, contributing to systemic advocacy and sector development.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum Diploma level qualifications in financial counselling.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience in financial counselling.
  • Experience working with vulnerable and at-risk clients.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to implement trauma-informed approaches to practice.
  • Demonstrated understanding and experience in domestic and family violence and financial abuse financial counselling, including risk assessment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Commitment to personal and professional development.
