Job Description

The role of a School Counsellor is pivotal in ensuring the emotional and academic well-being of students.

  • Mandatory: Current NSW Working with Children Check.
  • Essential qualifications: Psychology Board of Australia registration or Australian Association of Social Workers membership/ PACFA/ACA with a minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Counselling.
  • Strong understanding of professional body ethical and legal requirements, specifically within a school setting.
  • Proven ability to provide evidence-based interventions with children and young people, individually and in groups.
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively manage caseloads.
  • Able to respond appropriately in crisis situations and cater to students presenting with complex needs.
  • Experience and willingness to provide professional learning to school staff and families.
  • Fully equipped to collaborate with a Pastoral Care team.

Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to adhering to the mission and ethos of the Catholic Church's work in schools.

An exceptional interpersonal and communication skill set is crucial for this position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement strategies to promote student wellbeing.
  • Provide individual and group counselling sessions as required.
  • Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement effective support plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop safety plans when necessary.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with best practice in school counselling.
