Mechanical Engineering Technician

Overview of the Role:

  • This position involves preparing drawings, plans, and designs for mechanical engineering projects under the direction of engineers.
  • The successful candidate will assist with the design and modification of mechanical equipment, plant, and fabricated components for client projects.
  • Selecting and recommending appropriate tools, equipment, and materials for workshop and site use is a critical aspect of this role.
  • The incumbent will assemble and install new and modified mechanical assemblies, components, machine tools, and hydraulic/pneumatic power systems.
  • Estimating material costs, quantities, and machine requirements to support tendering and project scheduling is also an important responsibility.
  • The individual will perform and direct field and workshop tests on fabricated components and mechanical systems to validate compliance.
  • Collecting and analyzing technical data, conducting computations, and preparing engineering diagrams and reports are key functions of this position.
  • The person in this role will organize and supervise inspection and preventive maintenance of machines and plant to ensure safety and operational efficiency.
  • E nsuring that all designs, assembly, and finished works comply with specifications, contract provisions, and regulatory standards is essential.

Requirements:

  • A Diploma or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (or equivalent qualification) is required.
  • Experience in an engineering workshop or metal fabrication environment, with exposure to plant, machinery, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems, is necessary.
  • Strong ability to interpret engineering drawings and apply mechanical design principles is crucial.
  • Proficiency in CAD software and other engineering tools will be advantageous.
