Lead Developer - Cloud API Platform

Brisbane is a key location for our digital transformation program.

We require an experienced developer to play a pivotal role in building out a new Whole-of-Government Graph API integration platform.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop a central API platform using Node.js, GraphQL, and Apollo Federation technology.
  • Drive the delivery of a unified API gateway and integration framework across multiple backends.
  • Create scalable, secure microservices in a federated architecture environment.
  • Champion API governance, lifecycle management, and secure identity practices (OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, fine-grained access control).
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with product, engineering, and stakeholder teams in an Agile/DevSecOps setting.
Requirements:
  • Strong Node.js development skills with TypeScript and REST/GraphQL services expertise.
  • Deep knowledge of GraphQL experience – particularly with Apollo Server/Federation technology.
  • Experience designing API contracts across multiple backend systems.
  • API security best practices – OpenID Connect, OAuth 2.0, fine-grained access control mechanisms.
  • Exposure to event-driven architecture (publish/subscribe models) principles.
  • Test automation and CI/CD via GitHub implementation.
  • Cloud stack experience: AWS (containers, serverless) environments.
  • Familiarity with tools: Jira, Confluence.
