The Defence Vehicle Fleet Technician Role
A permanent opportunity has become available with Ventia for a skilled Heavy Vehicle Fleet Technician to support our Defence contract in Townsville.

The successful candidate will work on a diverse range of Defence vehicle platforms, including the Rheinmetall transportation fleet and armoured fighting vehicles like Abrams tanks, ASLAV reconnaissance vehicles, and M113AS4 armoured personnel carriers.

Responsibilities
The Heavy Vehicle Fleet Technician will be responsible for conducting maintenance tasks, including technical inspections and classifications. This may involve:

  1. Fitting and operating special test equipment and test-driving vehicles
  2. Repairing or replacing worn or faulty parts by removing assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials, or steering gear; dismantling them and checking parts, referring to manuals as necessary
  3. Carrying out minor body repairs and minor trim repairs
  4. Diagnosing, repairing, and replacing engine management and fuel injection components
  5. Testing and repairing electrical systems such as lighting, instrumentation, ignition, and electronic fuel injection

Qualifications and Experience

  1. Cert III Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology or equivalent
  2. Hold a current Australian State or Territory open driver's licence for Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) classes of vehicles, highly desirable
  3. Possess the demonstrated ability and practical experience to inspect, repair, and maintain earth-moving equipment and/or military armoured vehicles, highly desirable
  4. Demonstrated ability to inspect, repair, and maintain light, medium, and heavy transportation vehicles
  5. Open and clear communication within a team environment
