
Senior Treaty Negotiator

The Department of Education is seeking a skilled professional to lead the department's work in supporting the Victorian Treaty process.
This role involves collaborating across the organisation and Whole of Victorian Government to inform Statewide Treaty negotiation positions. As primary point of contact between Department of Premier and Cabinet and the department, you will manage formal and informal engagement throughout Statewide Treaty position development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver positions on Statewide Treaty negotiations as authorised lead in the department, ensuring departmental expertise and authority are embedded in Treaty negotiations.
- Lead and manage relationships with department Secretary, Ministers, expert teams and other internal stakeholders across the portfolio to coordinate advice and authorisation of department positions.
- Identify portfolio initiatives and opportunities for collaboration to support Treaty implementation.
Requirements:
- Exceptional working knowledge of the Victorian Treaty process including legislation, policy, agreements and frameworks.
- Sophisticated and culturally aware negotiation and collaboration skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of governance, risk and change management.
- Professional or lived experience demonstrating commitment to the rights of First Peoples in Victoria, including cultural rights, self-determination, Treaty and Truth.
- Education-specific knowledge and experience to represent the department in WoVG negotiations and authorisations.
