About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly accomplished academic leader to join our team as the Dean of Built Environment and Sustainability at Deakin University.

Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading our School of Architecture and Built Environment, driving innovative solutions and practices in sustainable built environment education, research, and practice. With a strong emphasis on sustainable resource use, space/energy efficiency, and innovative design and construction practices, the School aims to contribute significantly to the transition toward a circular economy design model.

You will provide leadership in built environment education, research, and practice, with established connections to Australian government funding priorities, professional bodies, and industry. Your expertise should include one or more areas such as sustainable design management and construction practice, design thinking in design and project management, circular built environment, sustainable building performance, environmental impact modelling and assessment, energy efficiency in buildings and life cycle assessment (LCA), and sustainable resource use.

Your key responsibilities will include integrating industry, clinical, and/or research practices to inform unit/course design across disciplines nationally; leading teaching teams to develop courses and materials that influence teaching in peer institutions nationally; developing new innovation in curriculum design adopted nationally; leading large-scale, highly productive, high-quality research, scholarship, and creative activities generating high-impact outputs; and developing and leading major academic collaborations enabling novel research or creative activities recognised internationally.

Selection Criteria
  • A PhD in a relevant discipline
  • Evidence of original, innovative, and distinguished contribution to scholarship and teaching, research, and research supervision
  • Demonstrated success as an eminent authority at the national and international level in research and scholarship through high-quality publications and exhibitions, as appropriate to the discipline
  • Sustained success in obtaining competitive external research grants
  • Excellence in engagement with research, community, industry, and government to enhance the national and international standing of the discipline
  • Evidence of successful leadership of teaching, research, and/or administration
  • Demonstrated ability to lead improvement of academic standards, including implementing best practice teaching strategies and dissemination of innovative practices
  • Extensive experience in attracting and supervising higher degree by research candidates to maximise research performance

As the ideal candidate, you will have a salary range of $180,000 - $250,000 per annum, commensurate with your qualifications and experience.
