About the Role

The Australian Energy Regulator is seeking an experienced executive to play a critical role in shaping the organization's strategic direction. As Chief Executive Officer, you will leverage your expertise to navigate complex regulatory landscapes and foster a high-performing culture that prioritizes transparency, innovation, and excellence.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Provide strategic leadership to support the development and execution of the organization's Strategic Plan and Corporate Plan.
  2. Develop and manage the annual budget to ensure activities are aligned with strategic priorities.
  3. Lead and empower the senior leadership team to promote a values-driven culture that supports high performance and innovation.
  4. Represent the organization externally, providing a strong, credible presence in engagements with senior government officials, regulators, industry leaders, and consumer groups.
  5. Instil and reinforce the organization's purpose and values to promote ethical and responsible behaviour, innovation, and excellence.
Key Selection Criteria
  • Executive-level management experience and a proven track record of leadership within a dynamic, complex public or private sector environment.
  • Understanding of the operations of governments and regulators.
  • Knowledge of Australian electricity and gas markets, and the role, purpose, and objectives of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage performance against organisational and cultural change, operational risk, and lead innovation.
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, economics/commerce, engineering, public policy, or related fields.
