Aboriginal Youth Justice Specialist
The Aboriginal Family-Centred Youth Justice Program is an early intervention initiative that takes a trauma-informed and family-centred approach to reducing the risk of contact with the youth justice system for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people and their families.
This role involves working alongside Aboriginal young people aged 10-14 years and their families, providing intensive case management and individualised therapeutic support.
Intensive outreach support is provided to families in their homes, in the community and over the phone, taking into account unique kinship structures and the diversity of each family unit.
The specialist will provide group diversion and culture-based activities, education workshops and family-centred support to address any presenting challenges before escalation.
About YouCandidates should possess a strong commitment to the values underpinning this vision and purpose.
A Diploma or Degree qualification in Community Services/Social Work/Psychology is required.
Applicants should have at least 3-5 years' experience in case management within the child welfare field.
A high level of awareness of key issues impacting Aboriginal communities is essential, along with an appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures.
Demonstrated case management experience in a relevant sector (community services, justice, education) is also required.
The ability to authentically engage and listen deeply with Aboriginal families and children is crucial, as is the capacity to provide clear, culturally appropriate, respectful and consistent communication.
Expertise in child development, attachment and trauma, as well as the ability to apply this knowledge, is highly valued.
Experience in identifying, assessing and responding to risk using applicable frameworks in various contexts is also desirable.
