Information Management and Right to Information Role

The role of the Manager of Information Management and Right to Information is a specialist leadership position that focuses on managing and releasing departmental information, including right to information applications and requests to access personal information.

  • This involves ensuring compliance with legislation such as the Right to Information Act 2009, the Personal Information Protection Act 2004, and the Children, Young People and Their Families Act 1997.

The role requires strategic engagement with internal and external stakeholders, including legal professionals and inter-agency forums, to support policy development and monitor emerging issues. In addition, the successful candidate will oversee the operations of the Information Services Team, coordinate sensitive and complex information requests from various court and tribunals, and make delegated decisions under the RTI Act while maintaining high standards of confidentiality and professional judgment.

The role also involves developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and training resources to support consistent and legally compliant practices across the Department. This includes working closely with colleagues to identify areas for improvement and implementing changes that benefit the organisation as a whole. As part of this role, you will be expected to provide specialist guidance, manage complaints, and contribute to continuous improvement in information governance and service delivery.

Key Requirements
  • Current Tasmanian Registration to Work with Vulnerable People (Registration Status – Employment)
  • Bachelor of Laws or other relevant legal qualifications

The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders at all levels. They will have a strong understanding of legislative requirements and best practice in information management, as well as experience in coordinating complex projects and managing competing priorities.
