Biological Research Specialist

The role contributes to scientific research that develops products and services to address human, animal and environmental health and biosecurity challenges.

The Opportunity:

Contribute to the development of original experimental methods through research and technology as part of the Disease Mitigation Technologies group.

About the Role:

This position will operate across two teams in the Disease Mitigation Technologies (DMT) group; Genome Engineering and Immunomics.

  • As part of the Genome Engineering team, contribute to the production of genome engineered poultry.
  • As part of the Immunomics team, contribute to the research and development of RNA based vaccines and immunological tools for Transboundary Animal Diseases.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing novel experimental approaches to advance knowledge in Biological Sciences.
  • Participating in project planning and contributing to the identification and definition of research problems with colleagues.
  • Addressing problems promptly and in a constructive manner.
  • Making significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research results.
Requirements:

To be considered you will need:

  • A Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent relevant work experience in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Evidence of technical and experimental experience in microbiology and molecular biology related laboratory skills.
  • Evidence of technical and experimental experience in tissue culture, PCR, bacterial culture, bacterial cloning.
Desirable:

Research experience with chicken embryos or other livestock species.

Demonstrated experience with gene editing techniques.

Experience in working with infectious viruses in a PC3 laboratory environment.

Knowledge of regulations related to working with genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

Demonstrated ability to work within a diverse and multidisciplinary team.
